Pure Bay Team Top 5 & Top 10 Finisher in 2 Tournament Trails
Captain Garrett Gill and Dale Best were the first team to fish the 2006 Blue Wave Texas Trout Series and Redfish Series Tournament Trails in the newly released 22ft Blue Wave Pure Bay, powered by a 225hp Suzuki 4 Stroke.  With countless days of fishing, cold fronts, winds from 35-40mph and navigating deep and shallow waters,  the Pure Bay was without a doubt put to the test.  “I can’t imagine owning any other boat”, says Captain Garrett.

After a Top 5 Finish in the Blue Wave Texas Trout Series, the pressure was on to finish strong in Redfish Series.  The 2006 Blue Wave Texas Redfish Series Tournaments began in April and ended with a Championship Tournament in September.  The stops were Port O’Connor, Rockport, Matagorda, Corpus Christi and Port Aransas.  Challenging weather conditions varied with abnormally high winds and extreme hot temperatures.  “A few lost fish and unexplained changes in fish patterns can really hurt you in the tournament circuit”, says Captain Garrett Gill.  Four different times throughout the series Captain Garrett and partner Dale Best each lost a fish that would have made the difference of them placing in the Top 5.  While pre-fishing the week of two different tournaments, they were tracking some really nice 26″-28″ redfish.  With no weather or tide changes to speak of, they would return on tournament day only to find no fish.  “That’s just the breaks, there’s no telling what causes them to leave, boat traffic or changing of bait activity, you just have to adapt and overcome”, says Dale Best.

“I have been extremely pleased with the overall performance of the Pure Bay.  The speed and handling gave me the ability to blow by the competition.  It was nice not having to worry too much about what number I drew to take off in the tournament” says, Captain Garrett.  Dale Best says, “I’ve operated many bass boats and several center consoles throughout my life.  I was amazed with the shallow water and rough water capabilities of the Pure Bay.  In my opinion, there isn’t a better saltwater/freshwater crossover boat on the market today!”  Congratulations to Captain Garrett Gill and Dale Best for finishing 8th out of 151 competing teams!
