Anglers woke up to high winds and high tides the first Saturday morning of May as the 2007 Texas Redfish Series sponsored by Cabela’s kicked off its first tournament of the year.  The Blue Wave team of Jeff Austin and Kevin Shaw pulled in two giant redfish to tip the scales at over 18 lbs. to win the event.  The team was drift-fishing in two to four feet of water throwing plastics and spoons.  “I don’t even care about the money” Jeff Austin said.  “This trophy is what it’s all about.”

Jeff and Kevin came in second place in the 2006 Championship and second place in the 2006 Team of the Year race.  “We wanted a win.”

    
With Jeff opening up Texas Tops, a new aluminum fabrication business in Corpus Christi, and Kevin in Florida fishing another circuit, the team had no time to pre-fish.  “I pulled out my journals from the last two years and we went to where the fish had been last year,” said Kevin.  The journal paid off.  Team Blue Wave/Stiffy/Gulf Coast Marine took home over $8,000.00. “I was glad to be in our Blue Wave Pure Bay.  It got us to our spot fast and dry.”
